Out of Character!

J and I are hooked to 2 songs from #URI.

N tried resisting it cos we were playing it non-stop .. in loop! 

Finally she gave in...

Y'day evening when I was humming #BehChala - she is like - Can u please just play the song already?? I am sick n tired of you humming it ...😌😆

As the phone played the beats of #Challa - her inquisitive mind started thinking about what I had told her about URI. 

This is the conversation that followed - 

N - Mom, is URI real? Did it really happen? 

Me - Yes beti. It really did. 

N - So in real the soldiers sang these songs???

Me - Noo.. songs and dialogues are only in the movie. But the incident really took place. Terrorists from Pak came in our country and killed our sleeping soldiers. It's against the rules. If in war its ok. But soldiers are not supposed to kill unarmed people. 

N - Do they get to sleep? 

Me - Yes they do sleep in batches. At every point 1 batch of brave soldiers are on the front..

N - But why did they kill our soldiers? 

Me - (Honestly - even I didn't know how to answer this..Nevertheless.. ) So they can come and rule on our country. 

N - But that's not fair. Why they want to? And what will they get killing soldiers? 

Me - (Again no answer! Its difficult to give the simplest ones sometimes) That's how they know they can rule our country. Otherwise our brave soldiers will never let them do it. 

N - Then why don't our soldiers go and kill the bad people in that country? 

Me - (Assuring her) Of course they do! That's what we did few years back and even last month. We did a surgical strike. Our soldiers went in the places where bad terrorists were hiding and they killed each one of them. 

N - (Gleaming) 🙌Were they also sleeping? 

Me - (not sure of what to understand of the happiness) Yes. Most of them were. But we have been quiet enough. Now its time to make them understand they cannot just come and kill our army men. 

N - But why we don't kill bad soldiers from another country (read between the lines) ??? It is soooo unfair! They keep coming in our country and kill our army men. Our army is getting smaller and 

theirs is getting bigger?? Why ? If they cannot adhere to the rules of war why should we??? 

Me - But its not fair kiddo. Its our country's policy not to go and kill other country's soldiers unnecessary. 

(Previously I had explained that we don't start the war. But if someone comes in our country and starts something we don't keep quiet.)

N - Mom but our army men should go and find out which ones are bad and only kill them. 

Me - How do you suppose we do that, beta?

N - We should figure out which men are behaving "out of character"??😎

This followed with back n forth discussion on how to figure out who is behaving out of character... and how she came to know this phrase... 

Upon telling all this to J, he asked why we came to talk about all this so much... 

N replies very matter-of-the-factly -  Mom has 10 Christmas bags full of questions for me?? What am I supposed to do - I have to answer!!!!! 

Both of us burst out laughing on her way of expressions!!!
